Hawaii Angels

Founded in 2002 by Robert Robinson Ph.D., a former Harvard Business School professor and nationally recognized expert on angel investing, Hawaii Angels is a Honolulu-based network of early-stage investors. Through monthly meetings, the network has become one of the most successful and well-recognized angel investment groups in the Pacific, with members investing over $30 million in hundreds of companies.

Hawaii Angels provides a monthly forum where two startups present to the network's accredited investor members. The Screening Committee reviews 4–6 deals per month from over 500 pitch decks submitted annually. Members invest individually but often collaborate on deals, contributing capital ($300K–$2.5M range), guidance, and strategic connections. Current Managing Director is Joey Katzen.

Hawaii Angels founded and manages XLR8®, a series of community-focused accelerator and incubator programs. XLR8UH® is an award-winning venture accelerator investing in University of Hawaii entrepreneurs and technologies — ranked by Forbes as one of the top 30 accelerators in the nation. XLR8HI® serves as Hawaii's Entrepreneurship Center, and XLR8YOUTH™ is a first-of-its-kind innovation intensive for youth. In 2024, Hawaii Angels acquired Acasia Group, expanding its global reach into the Middle East, Africa, and beyond.
