Pacific Century Small Business Investment Company, Inc. (PCSBIC), formerly Bancorp Hawaii Small Business Investment Company, Inc., was formed in September 1983 in the State of Hawaii as a licensed Small Business Investment Company (SBIC). PCSBIC operated as a sister company to Bank of Hawaii under the Pacific Century Financial Corporation umbrella.
Pacific Century SBIC provided equity and debt funding primarily to technology businesses domiciled in Hawaii. As an SBA-licensed SBIC, the firm was able to leverage government-backed capital alongside private investment to support small businesses meeting SBA size standards. The firm served as an important bridge between institutional banking and Hawaii's emerging technology sector.
Pacific Century SBIC founded and manages XLR8®, a series of community-focused accelerator and incubator programs. XLR8UH® is an award-winning venture accelerator investing in University of Hawaii entrepreneurs and technologies — ranked by Forbes as one of the top 30 accelerators in the nation. XLR8HI® serves as Hawaii's Entrepreneurship Center, and XLR8YOUTH™ is a first-of-its-kind innovation intensive for youth. In 2024, Pacific Century SBIC acquired Acasia Group, expanding its global reach into the Middle East, Africa, and beyond.
"We provide equity and debt funding primarily to technology businesses domiciled in Hawaii — bridging institutional banking and the innovation ecosystem."
